ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: The revenue collection registered a growth of 13.7 per cent to Rs308.9 billion during the July-February period of the current financial year, as against Rs271.7 billion during the same period last year.

Provisional figures released by the Central Board of Revenue here on Saturday showed that the revenue registered a growth of Rs10.1 billion over the target of Rs298.8 billion.

On monthly basis, the revenue collection in February 2004 stood at Rs34.75 billion, as against Rs33.06 billion during the same month last year, showing an increase of 5.1 per cent. However, in comparison to the target of Rs39.2 billion set for the same month, it declined by 11 per cent during the month under review.

The CBR expects to collect more revenue when the collection figures are finalized in the next 10 days.

Tax-wise break-up showed that the tax authorities collected Rs137.532 billion under the head of sales tax during the July-Feb period of the current financial year against Rs122.456bn during the same period last year, showing an increase of 12.31 per cent.

Under the head of customs duty the tax authorities collected Rs54.688 billion during the period under review against Rs38.922 billion over the same period last year, showing an increase of 40.5 per cent.

The CBR collected Rs90.646 billion under income tax during the eight months of the current financial year against Rs83.154 billion over the same period last year, showing an increase of 9 per cent.

And the tax authorities collected Rs26.567 billion under the head of central excise duty during the period under review against Rs27.173 billion over the same period last year, showing a decline of 2.23 per cent.
