LAHORE, Feb 7: Captain Inzamamul Haq's proposal toholda three-weektraining camp prior to the selection of the team to face India next month went unheeded. Talking to journalists at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday after his return from Haj , Inzamam said that he wanted to remove the shortcomings spotted during the last tour of New Zealand through a long term training camp.

But the PCB selection committee in the evening announced 22 probables for the forthcoming series and called them for a short duration beginning Feb 24. The Indian team is expected to arrive on March 4.

However, the selectors did accept his second proposal to include all the players who toured New Zealand among the probables as most of the players have been retained.

Inzamam said bowlers would play a decisive role in winning the matches between India and Pakistan.

" These days even a hefty total of 300 plus is not a winning score unless you have an effective bowling attack. As both the teams have good batsmen, the bowlers will make the difference," the skipper remarked.

To a question, he said that he would prefer fast pitches during the series against India instead of slow ones.

He dispelled tbe impression that paceman Shabbir Ahmad was called in New Zealand because he had to bowl too many overs and had become tired.

"Every bowler has to perform his duty whenever he is asked to and the same happened with Shabbir," he pointed out.

He refused to comment on the two letters sent by the Anti Corruption Unit of ICC to the PCB, pointing out the suspect activities of two senior Pakistani players (without mentioning their names) in two tournaments in 2002.
