KARACHI, Feb 7: Six countries including India have confirmed their participation in the 43rd Amateur Golf Championship of Pakistan to be held at Arabian Sea Country Club from Feb 19 to 22.

Besides India, other countries confirming their participation are Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

This event will be the biggest of its kind, secretary Sindh Golf Association (SGA) Asad Ismail Khan said.

He said renowned Indian golfer Wikramjeet Singh has also confirmed his entry as a private participant for the four-day competition which will be played over 72 holes.

The top amateur Pakistan golfers likely to appear in the championship are: Shahid Javed Khan, Waqas Ahmed, Tariq Mahmood, Dr Aimal Zaman and Taimur Hasan.

He said two Sindh golfers Ali Raza Haji and Muhammad Ali Hai will miss the event as they are away in USA for scholarship studies.

He said Rs1.5million will be spent to stage this premier annual amateur competition in a befitting manner

SGA secretary said prior to the Amateur Golf Championship of Pakistan, a warm-up event, Sindh Amateur Golf Championship will be held at same venue from Feb 13 to 15.

He said around 100 golfers from across the country will appear in the open, seniors, juniors and ladies championship.-APP
