BANNU: Five outlaws, cop die in encounter

BANNU, Feb 4: Six people, five outlaws and a policeman, were killed during a police "encounter" here at Serai Norang on Tuesday.

The police have also arrested three of the alleged outlaws whereas three policemen received injuries during the exchange of heavy fire between the police party and a gang of anti-social elements.

The alleged gang-leader, Mamreez Khan Marwat, and his son Raza Ameen, wanted in dozens of cases of kidnapping for ransom, robberies, car lifting, etc., were also killed in the encounter.

The policeman, Gulzar Khan, was laid to rest on Tuesday evening. Officials of the district police attended his funeral.

The DSP of Serai Norang, Imran Khan, said they had a prior information about the presence of some outlaws belonging to Mamreez group near a hotel on Bannu-D.I.Khan road.

He said when the police party reached there the outlaws opened fire at them.

The exchange of fire ensued, he added, and resulted in the death of five outlaws who were identified as Mamreez Khan, Raza Ameen, Nekam Khan, Mohammad Zaman and Perheez Khan, besides the policeman.

The area police arrested two brothers of Mamree - Momin Khan and Ahmad Khan - and their companion Noor Mohammad.
