HYDERABAD, Jan 31: Taluka City Nazim Haji Moinuddin Sheikh, while opposing the transfer of taluka municipal officer (city) Altaf Leghari by the provincial government, has said his transfer would affect the working of the taluka municipal administration.

Reading from a written text at a press conference in his office here on Saturday, he said he had written a letter to the secretary, Local Government, requesting him to cancel the transfer.

He said an officer of BPS-17 had been deputed to replace Mr Leghari who was a BPS-19 official while claiming that majority of the TMA officers were of BPS-18.

He said there was no complaint against Mr Leghari as he was discharging his duties in a befitting manner and also because of close coordination between him and the TMO.

The taluka Nazim also talked about frequent power breakdowns in pumping stations of the Hyderabad development authority which adversely affected water supply to the city and said continuous power supply could also ensure a better sewerage and drainage system.

Accusing the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company of not discharging its responsibilities diligently, he said the company normally disconnected power supply on the eve of festivals and occasions, causing hurdles in the working of the TMA.

He urged Hesco officials to at least give a prior notice to the HDA before disconnecting power supply while adding that the TMA was short of diesel pumps to drain sewerage water.

He maintained that the Sui gas department was clearing dues of Rs8 million which had been pending for more than two years.

He disclosed the TMA had initiated de-silting of drains in the city and announced the setting up of four complaint centres that would work in the head office as well as Market, Fakir-ka- Pir and Paretabad.

About allegations of corruption against him and the TMA, he said he would welcome any inquiry by any institution or organization into the affairs of the TMA to unearth corruption.
