KARACHI, Jan 31: Hundreds of students gathered in front of the Govt DJ Science College on Saturday to protest, what they termed government's failure to arrest killers of their fellow student.
However, they postponed their protest rally after reaching Shaheen Complex roundabout and dispersed peacefully after DIG (Operations) invited their leaders for talks and assured them of fulfilling their demands.
The call for protest rally and a sit-in at Chief Minister's House was given by the Islami Jamiat Talaba to protest against the government's failure to arrest killers of Shahid Aziz, alleged IJT activist, who was reportedly killed by activists of another student group, outside the Government College of Commerce and Economics.
The students belonging to various city academic institutions gathered in front of the DJ Science College and started marching towards Sindh CM House, but their rally was intercepted at Shaheen complex roundabout by the DIG, Tariq Jamil, on whose assurances, protesting students dispersed peacefully.
Heavy contingents of anti-riots police and Rangers had been deployed outside the DJ College and along the proposed route of the rally to Sindh CM's House to control the procession.
Speaking to the students at Shaheen Complex roundabout, the DIG informed them that a police party had been dispatched to Mardan for arrest of the alleged killerst.-PPI
