Sparkling knocks by Salman, Taufiq

LAHORE, Feb 21: Fine batting by openers Salman Butt and Taufiq Umar enabled Pakistan XI to beat Rest of Pakistan (RoP) XI by eight wickets in a charity match organised to raise funds for the victims of tsunami catastrophe and the Balochistan flood disaster at the Qadhafi Stadium on Monday.

Salamn remained unbeaten 91 while Taufiq struck 68 as Pakistan XI overhauled the winning target of 188 in 39.3 overs for the loss of two wickets. Salman cracked 13 fours while faced 122 balls.

Taufiq hit 10 boundaries and one six. He negotiated 96 balls. The openers were involved in 151 runs for the first wicket. Shoaib Malik contributed quick fire 23, two sixes, one four off 18 balls. Earlier, Aamer Bashir scored 70 to help RoP to manage a respectable total scoring 187 for all in 47.5 overs.

He smashed nine boundaries in a knock of 110 balls. Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria finished with four wickets for 42 while Muhammad Sami picked up three for 32.
