ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: A packet received by officials of Thailand embassy in Islamabad caused anthrax scare on Sunday, police said.

According to the police, the packet contained several letters having suspicious powder.

The third secretary of the embassy, Ms Thaiuuai, and the security officer, Mr Chakkrid, who had opened the packet, were taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

A team of doctors examined the two diplomats, exposed to the substance, kept them under observation for some time. But the tests proved negative and they were declared safe.

The police said the packet was delivered at the embassy, situated in sector F-8/1, through an ordinary mail at 11.30am. When it was opened, the staff found some letters containing powder. The matter was immediately reported to the area police.— Staff Reporter
