KARACHI, Jan 16: Lawyers across the province elected a 42-member Sindh Bar Council for a new four-year term on Saturday. Twenty-one members were elected from the five districts of Karachi.

Of the 6,000 advocates enrolled in the city, some 3,000 turned out to cast their ballots at the polling stations set up in the City Courts, the advocate-general's office and in Malir.

According to unofficial results, Advocates Abrar Hasan, Mustafa Lakhani, Mohammad Ali Abbasi, Sadiq Hidayatullah, Noor Naz Agha, Mohammad Yasin Azad, Salahuddin Gandapur, Abbas Ali and Amin Lakhani were elected from District South.

Elected from District East were Mahmoodul Hasan, Iftikhar Javed Kazi, Hanif Bhatti, Mohammad Aqil, Fahim Riaz Siddiqui and Abdullah Chandio. District Central returned Mir Afzal, Zia Ahmed Awan, M. Haleem Siddiqui and Khalil Dogar. Sathi Ishaq and Ghulam Nabi Shaikh were elected to represent District West and Malir. Advocate Abbasi polled the highest number of votes.
