KARACHI, May 28: As elsewhere in the city, water crisis persists in Lyari Town and protest by elected representatives entered its second week.
The water crisis forced over a dozen NGOs and CBOs to join the protest campaign. The representatives of these bodies at a meeting with Nazim and Naib of the Town on Monday decided to form an action committee, namely Lyari Action Committee.
The committee will soon meet to evolve a join action programme to put pressure on the KWSB to ensure due share of water supply to the town, said a spokesman for the action committee, Akram Baloch.
He said the committee would shortly announce its future line of line of action in its meeting.
He criticized the indifferent attitude of the KWSB and said it had adopted a negative attitude towards water shortage problem in Lyari Town.
The protest by the elected representatives of Lyari entered the 9th day on Tuesday, and there was no positive response from the KWSB officials.
He dispelled the impression created by the KWSB that there was no water shortage in the town, and said residents of other parts of the city had also been facing similar problem.
The Nazims and Naib Nazims of Lyari Town had closed their offices on May 20.
