AMSTERDAM, May 28: A Dutch medical student may have accidentally swallowed HIV-infected blood during a lesson that went wrong and will have to wait six months to find out if she is infected with the virus that causes AIDS.
The first-year student was participating in a practical exercise last week in which her university class had to suck the blood into a pipette or glass tube and she is believed to have taken some into her mouth. Blood is usually tested prior to the exercise but wasn’t in this case. —Reuters
