KARACHI, Nov 30: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui has said that two inspectors of excise police, Muhammad Ali Soomro and Mushtaq Khokhar, who kept Senator Ismail Bulaidi in illegal confinement and subjected him to torture, are arrested and are being investigated.

"Both the inspectors have been taken to Mauripur police station and they are being questioned for their alleged act of taking a senator into custody and reportedly subjecting him to torture," he told newsmen at his office.

The RCD Highway remained closed for vehicular traffic on Tuesday morning for several hours as enraged people were protesting there against the arrest of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Senator Ismail Bulaidi by the excise police officials.

According to reports, the senator was coming to Karachi from Quetta in a coach when the excise police stopped the coach for checking. The excise police took Senator Bulaidi to an undisclosed location and subjected him to torture.

The minister said that any decision to fix charge against those, who allegedly detained the senator, would be taken after investigation and assured that they would not be spared if involved in any illegal act. He disclosed that highway was cleared of hurdles and the vehicular traffic was restored after negotiations with protestors. -PPI
