ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: Confusion surrounded the fate of five opposition commanders captured by the Taliban on Friday.
The Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) quoted Taliban sources as saying that the five were hanged after the militia repulsed an opposition assault in the Dara-i-Souf region of Samangan province.
But Afghan Education Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said the story was untrue, “No such incident occurred, it is wrong and we refute it,” Muttaqi was quoted as saying.
The earlier report said the five commanders and 15 fighters were detained after Taliban forces repulsed a major opposition offensive. The AIP named one of those hanged as Commander Mohammed Bilal.—AFP
