LAHORE, Nov 13: MMA president Qazi Husain Ahmad says the religious alliance will hold its public meeting in Karachi on Nov 28 at all costs. Talking to reporters before an Iftar dinner here on Saturday , he said if the government tried to obstruct the meeting then they (the MMA) would take their fight against uniform to streets.
The MMA had announced holding of four big public meetings in Karachi, Multan, Lahore, and Rawalpindi on Nov 28, Dec 5, 12 and 18, respectively, to protest Gen Musharraf's backing out of his promise of shedding his military dress by Dec 31.
Reports suggest that the Sindh governor and chief minister were against allowing the holding of Nov 28 meeting. Answering a question, Qazi said they would also invite the ARD and other parties to their Karachi meeting.
Answering another question, he said the supreme council of the religious parties' alliance would decide on Nov 24 whether opposition leader Maulana Fazlur Rahman and NWFP Chief Minister Akram Durrani would attend the National Security Council (NSC) meeting or not. He rejected as disinformation by the government reports that there were differences among MMA components on launching the anti-Musharraf movement.
