ISLAMABAD May 25: The government is considering to give recognition to top businessmen and industrialists by affording attestation of documents to those income tax payers whose annual income tax exceeds Rs100,000.

The Islamabad office of Sohail Altaf, Chairman of the FPCCI, told Dawn that the proposal had been floated by a delegation of businessmen to Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, who consented to consider it as a priority issue.

He said that the federal law minister, Khalid Ranjha, who was present on the occasion, had appreciated the proposal and had given his assurance that his ministry would have no hesitation in giving its approval if a summary was moved by the finance ministry.

The proposal, Mr Altaf said ,was not new as it had been given to the government many times but its implementation stage appeared to have arrived now.

He said the business community expected that the government would ensure transparency in refunds and a legal framework would be enforced from the next budget.

The FPCCI chief said acceptance of the demand of self-assessment in case of EOBI and Social Security was yet another step forward for traders community.

He, however, said frequent audits were another irritant for the community which ought to be restricted to once in a year.
