26 DCITs transferred to ST dept

ISLAMABAD, Oct 29: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has transferred 26 Deputy Commissioners of Income Tax (DCITs) to the Sales Tax Department for the first time at various locations as part of re-structuring of tax administration.

Member Human Resource Management, Zafar Aziz Osmani told Dawn that the transfers have been made under section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973. The income tax group officers serving sales tax would maintain their lien, inter se seniority with the income tax group.

He said that CBR was undergoing a massive transformation and reform process under which a functional structure was to be evolved essentially building synergy between income tax and sales tax revenue administration.

In this connection, he said, the large taxpayers unit (LTU) was set up two years ago at Karachi, where sales tax and income tax officers were co-located and have since been very successfully operating.

The member said under the strategy of CBR by the end of the year 2005 entire income tax and sales tax activities would be managed under 12 Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) located across Pakistan with the centralized processing unit and taxpayers facilitation centres at smaller locations.

In the overall reform context, the transfer of income tax officers in the sales tax function would be seen as a step in right direction, he added. Those DCITS transferred would work as deputy collectors in various sales tax collectarates: Shahbuddin Usto, Muhammad Saeed Nashir, Shahban Bhatti, Saeed Ahmed, Abdul Wahid, Jehangir Ahmed, Muneeb Arsalan and Shahid Mahmood Sheikh at collectorate of sales tax, Karachi; M. Farooq Azam Memon and Yousuf Haider Sheikh at collectorate of customs, ST, CE, Hyderabad; Muhammad Iqbal and Mian Touqeer Aslam at collectorate of customs, ST & CE, Quetta; Ms. Amina Hassan, Ms. Ambreen Iftikhar and Ms. Saadia Sadaf Jillani at collectorate of sales tax, Lahore.

Dr Hamid Ateeq Sarwar, collectorate of sales tax, Faisalabad; Muhammad Azam Sheikh, Muhammad Abid Raza Bodla, Mir Badshah Khan Wazir, collector of customs, ST & CE, Multan; Zulfiqar Hussain Khan and Muhammad Qasim Samad, collectorate of sales tax, Rawalpindi; Nawab Khan, collectorate of sale tax and CE, Peshawar; Mirza Imtiaz Ahmad, Badruddin Ahmad Qureshi, Hyder Ali Dharejo and Ms Lubna Khan at LTU, Karachi, respectively.

Through another notification, CBR transferred 16 deputy collectors and assistant collectors.

According to the notification, Muhammad Faheem Taheem has been transferred and posted as deputy collector of customs, preventive, Karachi; Naveed Dost Chandio, assistant controller of customs valuation, Karachi; Tariq Hussain Sheikh, Khial Muhammad and Amir Rashid assistant collectors, collectorate of customs Faisalabad; Nisar Ahmad and Ejaz Badshah assistant collectors, collectorate of customs, Sambrial, Sialkot.

Nadeem Memon and Khalid Hussain, deputy collectors, collectorate of customs, Rawalpindi; Muhammad Arshad Hayat, assistant collector, collectorate of customs Rawalpindi; Ms Zeba Bashir Ahmad, directorate of inspection (Customs), Karachi.
