KARACHI, Oct 6: All the work in various city government offices came to halt on Wednesday due to cricket match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Karachi despite the fact that the city government had declared holiday only for schools and colleges fall under its administrative jurisdiction.

Civic Centre, old KMC building, workshops of city government, water board and some other places where city government offices are established wore a deserted look. A very few officials and staff came to offices and they too left for their homes after spending a few hours at offices.

According to an official, the confusion whether a holiday has been declared only for schools and college or for the whole staff of city government created due to issuance of two different notifications of city authorities in the last few days.

In a notification issued a few days back and reported in press, a general holiday was declared by the city government. However, another notification issued on Tuesday stated that only schools and colleges of city government would be closed on the day of cricket match.

In the meantime, no clarification was issued for the earlier notification. The situation led the staff to observe a holiday and a very few offices remained opened for a couple of hours. -PPI
