KARACHI, Oct 6: All deputy district officers of the city government's revenue department have been vested with magisterial powers for price control during the holy month of Ramazan.
The DDOs will be authorized to take action, including punishment and fine, against those found indulged in profiteering, overcharging and violating the officially notified price list.
The city government is establishing 54 complaint centres in the city's 18 towns to ensure an effective check on prices of essential commodities. Staff at these centres will not only keep a close eye on shop keepers venders and other traders and make sure that the notified price list is being adhered to, but will also ensure that the commodities are available throughout the city in sufficient quantity.
The staff at the centres will be available from 9am to 6pm to receive complaints from general public and act accordingly. People have been advised to approach the centres upon noticing overcharging at any place so that prompt action could be taken against the defiant seller.
The places where the centres are being established are: Liaquat Market, Malir No 15, Kala Board, Mohammad Market and Khokhrapar in Malir Town; Haideri Market, Chandni Chowk, Paposh Nagar and Block M Market in North Nazimabad Town; Korangi No 1 and 2, and Bilal Chowrangi in Korangi Town; Soldier Bazaar, Tariq Road and Mahmoodabad in Jamshed Town;
Market Shah Faisal Colony No 1 and Main Bazaar Rafah-i-Aam in Shah Faisal Town; Memon Goth and Maimarabad in Gadap Town; Orangi No 11-1/2 & 14 and Aligarh Colony in Orangi Town; Bara Board, Pak Colony, Banaras Chowk and Qasba in Site Town, Jhat Pat Market, Chakiwara, Khadda Market and Baghdadi in Lyari Town; Super Market, Gole Market and Nazimabad Chowrangi No 1 in Liaquatabad Town; Industrial Area, Sindhi Hotel Sector 5-M and UP Morr Sector 11-C in New Karachi Town; Bahadurabad UC-2, Alhamra Society Tipu Sultan Road, near Disco Bakery, near Baitul Mukarram Mosque and Jauhar Chowrangi in Gulshan Town; Babar Market and Korangi No 5 in Landhi Town; Quaidabad and Ibrahim Haideri in Bin Qasim Town; Karimabad, Water Pump and Al-Noor in Gulberg Town.
