KARACHI, Oct 1: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has stressed on waging a joint struggle against extremism.
Talking to a delegation of poets, writers and intellectuals under the Pakistan Writer's Guild led by Jamiluddin Aali at Governor's House here on Friday, Ishratul Ibad pointed out that writers and poets could play the best role in the struggle against extremism.
Justice (retd) Dr Ghaus Mohammed, Nasim Durrani, Dr Hanif, Dr Nawaz Ali Shauq, Sarosh Siddiqui, Saleem Siddiqui and others were also attended the meeting. Referring to the holding of writers' convention, the governor assured of all cooperation from the provincial government.
He also agreed on a transparent action regarding the Writer's Guild building in Lahore and promised to contact the government of Punjab for this purpose. The delegation appreciated the governor's efforts for encouraging writers, poets and intellectuals.
They also hailed his initiative for reintroducing the system of counselling in varsities and observed that this would help provide guidance to the youth in their personal and collective matters.
HOUSING: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has issued directives for implementation of a coordinated programme for the construction of low-cost houses. Addressing a meeting at Governor's House on Friday, the governor stressed on providing all possible facilities to investors showing interest in the housing sector.
He said that in addition to other projects being executed in the city, the investors at home and abroad were also keen on cooperating in the government efforts for providing housing facilities to low-income people.
FINANCIAL IDEAS 2004: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad said that despite several odds the image of Karachi had been continuously improving, which was evident from the series of exhibitions being held in the city.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of "Financial Ideas 2004: Exhibition and Conference" at Expo Centre on Friday, Ishratul Ibad called upon the industrialists and businessmen to avail business opportunities being offered in the city. He said that the government was providing conducive environment for business.
He said that Financial Ideas was part of the series of exhibitions, which were not only providing people a forum to exchange knowledge and market their products, but also helping to restore the image of Karachi by nullifying the negative propaganda about commercial and business capital of the country.
Dr Ibad said that the country was progressing steadily towards economic stability and this journey towards prosperity and progress would continue. -APP/PPI
