KARACHI, Sept 17: A Turkish national and chief of an Istanbul-based group of companies has submitted an application to the Capital City Police Officer for registration of an FIR against Umar Zahoor Farooq who has allegedly committed a fraud with him.

In his application, Erhan Kanioglulari stated that Umar Farooq had cheated and defrauded him by extorting amount of 9.37 million euros and issued bank guarantee of a fake bank and signed as the president of Middle East Operations.

Earlier, a letter addressed to the home department, the governor had said that Turkey was a brotherly Muslim country with whom Pakistan had very close and cordial relations.

He observed that the incident in question had not only tarnished the image of Pakistan but had also damaged the bond of love and respect that existed between the two countries.

He had shown his desire that the matter should be given top priority and urgent action must be taken against the culprits. Besides, he had directed the home department officials to extend all possible help to Mr Kanioglulari for the recovery his lost money.


Mr. Umar Farooq Zahoor has, through his lawyers M. A. I. Lakhani & Co, requested that the reader be informed that "the complaints of Mr. Erhan Kanioglulari resulted in two different proceedings against Mr. Umar Farooq, these being SC No. 546/2004 and a NAB investigation. Mr. Farooq was acquitted of all charges vide Order dated 31.03.2008 by the Hon’ble 1st ADJ, Karachi South. The NAB investigation was closed vide Order dated 25.04.2014 by the Learned Accountability Court, Sindh on the grounds that Mr. Kanioglulari failed to produce any evidence to substantiate his claim and that prima facie, no case was made out against him.”


SHOT DEAD: Two persons were shot dead in separate incidents in different areas. A fifty-year-old man was killed and his sister-in-law was wounded when her ex-husband shot at them in Naleem Colony on Friday morning.

Police said that Haseena after getting divorce from Qari Bashir in Okara came to Karachi and married Akbar Ali. Learning that Haseena has married again, Qari Bashir came to Naleem Colony on early Friday morning and restored to firing.

At the time of the incident, Haseena's husband Akbar Ali had gone to work and his brother Anwar Ali, 50, was at home, who died in the firing. Following the incident, Qari managed to escape. Later, Akbar Ali lodged an FIR has been lodged in the Boat Basin police station. In Steel Town, an elderly man was shot dead by unknown armed men inside his house.

Police said that unknown persons barged into the house of Mohammad Afzal, 55. They shot at him and escaped. The seriously wounded victim was taken to a nearby private hospital, where he died during treatment. Police said that he was an employee of Steel Mills and claimed that they were investigating the case.
