KARACHI, May 24: The provincial minister for law and human rights, Abdul Qadir Halepoto, has said that the government is well aware of the need and importance of human resource development through information technology education. That is why IT training programme for the employees of the Sindh government is being conducted to make government officials professionally as well as technically sound to serve the people of Pakistan.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a certificate distribution ceremony among successful Sindh government employees who had completed the IT training programme from Dadabhoy University, here on Friday.
He said that in order to improve the quality of service of the organizations and as a part of continuous professional education, all developed and civilized societies had introduced computers and IT.
He further said that information technology had made great inroads in Pakistan, whereas 6 to 8 years ago the software industry was hardly an entity. But today, it is recognized as perhaps the only industry which can almost single-handedly provide for Pakistan’s development needs and earn valuable foreign exchange for the country, he added.
He said that if investments are to be made in the promotion of IT in Pakistan, there should be emphasis on improved performance standards within any organization.
The law minister said that the country is caught in the quagmire of ignorance, poverty, deprivation, religious fanaticism, high population growth rate, deteriorating environment, growing unemployment and deteriorating law and order. IT education, in particular, will act as a catalyst and pull us out of this mess, he added.
He also said that when anyone looks for the factors behind repaid developments and inventions in the last two decades of the 20th century, the only answer comes in the form of the invention of the computer.
He expressed the hope that such efforts would be continued by Dadabhoy University in producing highly-skilled citizens, and ensured that such dedicated institutions will be granted charter by the government so that they could continue to impart training in the field of information technology with full recognition.—PPI
