KARACHI, May 24: The Aga Khan University, in collaboration with the Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, has organized a walk for Sunday from 8am to 9.30am to create awareness in the public about the hazards of tobacco use, says a press release.

The Pakistan Chest Society and the Pakistan Cardiac Society are also taking part in the walk.

“Smoking is on the rise in Pakistan and so are the diseases caused by tobacco use. Tobacco kills four million people worldwide every year.

‘‘If we remain silent and do not take any action, this death toll will rise to 10 million by the year 2025. Unfortunately, there is very little awareness in the general public about the serious harmful effects of tobacco use. Tobacco is the major cause for lung cancer, heart attack, respiratory failure, stroke as well as several other fatal diseases.”
