QUETTA, Sept 13: The Balochistan cabinet on Monday banned display of weapons in the province and decided to take strict measures for improving the law and order situation. The cabinet, in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yusuf, directed the district administrations to ensure enforcement of the ban.
The cabinet also prohibited pillion riding in Gwadar and wall chalking. It directed police and other agencies concerned to speed up their campaign against car and motorcycle hijacking, dacoities, drug smuggling and illegal vehicles' trade.
It decided that cooperation of the people would be obtained for curbing terrorism and maintaining law and order. The provincial ministers were asked to play their role in their constituencies in this regard.
The cabinet decided to appoint experienced officials in the sensitive districts to maintain the writ of the government at any cost. It was informed about the progress in investigation into the recent terrorist incidents in the province.
The chief minister said the government would maintain law and order at all costs and foil all the conspiracies against the province and the country. The cabinet approved a grant for the payment of outstanding electricity bills of the community water supply schemes with the condition that in future the communities would pay the bills regularly, according to the conditions of the World Bank.
It decided that all the laid off employees of the Pat feeder area command development project would be inducted into other water management development projects. The departments concerned were asked to prepare their reports in this connection.
It decided to form a committee for reviewing the issue of giving ownership rights to the shopkeepers who had encroached on local governments' land in urban areas. The authorities were asked to ensure a ban on unnecessary transfers and postings after the services and general administration department presented a report in this regard.
The cabinet was told that President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had assured that the financial problems of the province would be resolved. It reviewed the financial problems and implementation of development programmes. The chief minister directed the secretaries to ensure the implementation of the ministers' orders on financial and administrative matters.
