KARACHI, Sept 12: A school boy was shot dead when he resisted a cellular phone snatching bid in Korangi late Saturday night. Mohammad Rafiq Khanzada, 16, was going to his home, located in Korangi 2-1/2 , when two suspects on motorcycle intercepted him and demanded his cell phone and other belongings.
As Rafiq tried to resist, they shot at him in the chest and fled after snatching his cell phone. His body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination.
Later, the victim's brother lodged an FIR at the Zaman Town police station. Quoting the statement of victim's brother, police said that Rafiq was carrying a cell phone which was hardly worth Rs3,000. They said that the boy was a student of Class-X and used to do a part time job.
SUICIDE: A girl committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance in Liaquatabad late Saturday night. Police said that Arfa after having a dispute with her relatives consumed some poisonous substance. She was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she died during treatment.
FIRE: A passenger coach was set on fire in North Karachi late on Saturday night. According to the police, some armed men hijacked Illyas Coach with passengers. After releasing the passengers, they set the vehicle on fire at Shadman-2, North Karachi and escaped. Police could not ascertain as to who were the arsonists and what was the motive behind the move.
