JUI to observe protest day

QUETTA, Sept 1: Provincial leader of Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam Maulana Noor Muhammad has said that his party will observe a protest day on Friday in the province to condemn a raid on a Madressah.

Speaking at a Press conference at the JUI-F office on Wednesday, MNA Maulana Noor Muhammad, strongly condemned President Pervez Musharraf's policies. Hafiz Abdul Khaliq, a member of JUI-F who was picked up by intelligence agencies men and police personnel, and Hafiz Khalil, In-charge of the Madressah, were also present on the occasion.

Explaining his arrest by secret agencies' men, Hafiz Khaliq said he was first taken to Saddar Police Station and then his eyes were wrapped up with a cloth and then he was taken to an unknown place where he was interrogated.

Mr Hafiz said that questions asked by the agencies' men were related to participation in Afghanistan Jihad, party affiliation and ethnic identity. He said on the question of Jihad, he told the questioner that Jihad was compulsory in Islam but he had not participated so far besides politically he was associated with the JUI-F. He said he was freed on Wednesday afternoon.

Maulana Noor Muhammad announced that his party would observe a protest day on Friday to condemn intelligence agencies' raid on the Madressah and search of the house of deputy parliamentary leader of the MMA in the National Assembly, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, saying that Hafiz Khaliq was party member but he was dubbed as Al-Qaeda activist.
