KARACHI, Aug 31: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal President, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, has said that alliance's future strategy will be formulated in consultation with the joint opposition to maintain unity of the opposition.
Qazi Hussain Ahmad, who arrived in Karachi from Lahore on Tuesday afternoon, was talking to a group of journalists at the Jinnah Terminal. He condemned the wrong policies and pro-US measures of the government and said the alliance would continue with their protest.
Referring to the new Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz, he said they had boycotted the election of the prime minister and not the assembly, and would register their protest in the parliament in the future as well.
In reply to a question, he said the government had not taken the MMA into confidence about its actions in Balochistan. When his attention was drawn towards the statement of the chief minister of Balochistan in which he had implicated the Indian agency, Raw, in sabotage activities in his province, Qazi Ahmad said: "Let the rulers first agree about who is involved in the activities?"
He said although the MMA condemned terrorism but the US itself had so far failed to prove who was involved in the 9/11 tragedy and whom should action be taken against. The MMA chief termed the ongoing actions of the government in the name of Al-Qaeda as cruel, illegal and unconstitutional, and said that Ulema and people associated with religious circles were being arrested without any proof. "Authorities had failed to present any proof against them in the courts," he said.
Later, visiting a senior member of the party at the OMI hospital, Altaf Mir, who was injured in an attempt on his life by terrorists in Lyari two months back, Qazi Ahmad said the provincial government had failed to protect life and property of people and maintain law and order in the province.
He said that terrorists and criminals were at liberty while police were after Ulema, seminaries and workers of religious parties. Recalling the dacoity at the electronics market, Qazi Ahmad said those involved in the incidence were still at large, and the traders community were forced to resort to strikes and protests.
Pointing out increasing unrest and sense of insecurity among people, he said dacoities, thefts and snatching of vehicles, purses, jewellry and mobile phones from women and hauling up of bearded men had become a daily routine.
He said the provincial government and security agencies had failed to discharge their responsibilities and were demonstrating criminal negligence. He demanded that the attackers of Altaf Mir be arrested, terrorism activities, dacoities and car lifting incidents in the city be checked, and life and property and honour of people be ensured.
Regarding his visit to Karachi, Qazi Ahmad, who is also chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, said that a three-day all-Pakistan moot of the party was scheduled in Lahore from Sept 1 to 3 at the Minar-i-Pakistan.
The JI Karachi had arranged a meeting of party activists on Wednesday with regard to its preparations and a mass contact drive. He said the MMA was against terrorism and condemned it whether it was perpetrated in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Palestine or any other part of the world.
