LAHORE, Aug 29: Kite flying has resulted in the killing of 460 people and injuring thousands of others since 1995 after it was declared as a seasonal festival in the province.
This was observed by speakers while speaking at a protest demonstration organized by the Kite-flying Affectees Committee against this sports in front of the Lahore Press Club on Sunday. Carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against kite flying, they demanded a complete ban on kite flying to avoid further killings.
Committee Chairman Haji Mian Rafi urged Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi to take a personal initiative in this regard. He said the life had become miserable in the city due to frequent power trippings and cutting of throat incidents owing to kite flying, especially on Sundays.
Vice-Chairman Akramullah Khan Kakar and other office-bearers said the government should fix responsibility of human and financial losses due to kite flying and register cases against the people involved in it. -APP
