ANP meets today to discuss policies

QUETTA, Aug 26: A central executive committee meeting of the Awami National Party has been scheduled for Friday (today) here to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country, cooperation with other democratic parties and party matters.

Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan will preside over the meeting. Asfandyar Wali, with Begum Naseem Wali Khan and other members, has arrived here from Peshawar. Party's secretary-general Ehsan Waye and members from Punjab, besides Shahi Syed, Sindh ANP president, also have reached Quetta.

Meanwhile, a delegation of four Baloch parties alliance, comprising the Jamhoori Watan Party, Balochistan National Party-Mengal, National Party and Baloch Haq Tawar, called on the ANP leadership in Arbab house on Thursday.

Asfandyar Wali led the ANP side while ex-chief minister Mir Hamayun Marri (JWP), MPA Akhtar Hussain Langoo and Mir Tahir Bizenjo of the NP represented the alliance alliance in the meeting.

According to sources, leaders of the Pukhtun and Baloch nationalist parties discussed contentious issues, including military operation and establishment of cantonment in Balochistan, construction of controversial dam, autonomy to provinces and constitutional matters. They agreed that the nationalist political parties would come closer to a joint struggle for the rights of smaller nationalities.
