ISLAMABAD, Aug 26: Taking a suo motu notice, the Supreme Court on Thursday summoned senior superintendent of police (SSP) Islamabad to explain as to why SHO Golra police Khalid Virk had not been arrested for his involvement in the fake transfer of a house by land mafia.

A three-member bench, comprising Justices Faqir Mohammad Khokhar, Mian Shakirullah Jan and M. Javed Buttar, expressed concern over the issue and directed the SSP to appear before the court in person on Friday to justify the reasons.

Assistant Advocate-General Afshan Ghazanfar informed the court that only the SSP could explain why the police official had not yet been arrested. She also requested the court to summon the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman as his staff was also allegedly involved in the case.

However, the defence counsel contended that the incumbent chairman had not joined the CDA when the house was transferred. The F-10/3 house was owned by Dr Mohammad Saeed who lived in Germany while one of his relatives, Mohammad Aashiq, was residing in the house.

The land mafia got transferred the house in the name of Abu Bakr Hamdani on August 20, 2003, through forged documents. As a result, the house was forcibly vacated and the SHO Golra police helped the mafia in getting possession of the house. Later, Mr Aashiq informed the owner about the situation and got registered an FIR on August 28, 2003.
