KARACHI, Aug 24: Hearing of two appeals, including the one filed by the state, challenging the acquittal of Mohammad Ajmal alias Akram Lahori and another filed by co-accused Azam, Ata and Tassaduq was adjourned till Sept 19 by an appellate bench of Sindh high court.
The bench, comprised Justice Wahid Bux Brohi and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery. When the appeals came up for hearing, the counsel for accused/respondent, M. R. Syed said that he has no instructions from his clients that whether he is still representing them in these appeals or not.
AAG Habib Ahmed, appearing for the state, agreed for an adjournment on which the bench put off hearing till Sept 19, directing the counsel for the accused to seek instructions from his clients.
The appeals pertain to murder of a security guard Nazeer who was allegedly killed by the accused in front of Imambargah Mehfil-i-Zainab on April 7, 2002 in the jurisdictions of Police Station Rizvia Society. Akram Lahori was acquitted of the charge while co-accused Ata, Azam and Tassaduq were sentenced to death by an ATC in the case.
BAIL GRANTED: A division bench of SHC, comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Maqbool Baqer, on Tuesday admitted an accused Qazi Mohammad Shamim, accountant/ UDC of the Faisal Cantonment Board to bail against a solvent surety of Rs0.5 million each in two cases. He was accused of misappropriating Rs7.67 million. Shahdat Awan appeared for the applicant. -APP
