ISLAMABAD, Aug 20: As many as 61 officers, including 32 retired military officials, have been given extension in their service tenure after retirement from December 2002 till now.

The list of officials placed before the National Assembly on Friday showed that some of the retired military and civilian officers were in special grades drawing salary packages of upto Rs300,000 per month.

Leader of the Democratic Alliance in the Senate, Senator Raza Rabbani said the government's flawed policy of appointing retired military officials in civil institutions had seen the greatest militarization of civil institutions.

He said, "extension in tenure of officials who have reached the age of super annuation not only mars the career prospects of professional officers but also deprives new entrants of the job opportunities.

According to the Economic Survey 2003-2004, more than 12 million are unemployed in the country including some 33,000 postgraduate degree holders. The information placed before the lower house by the Establishment Division in response to a question by MNA Mian Muhammad Aslam showed that most of the officers given extension in service belonged to the three armed services and other civilian departments.

Following is the list of officers showing their names, grade, designations and cadre given extension in service from December 2002 till date:
