LAHORE, Aug 18: The former PCB treasurer, Muhammad Naeem, has accused the cricket board's chairman, Shaharyar M. Khan of resorting to disinformation about his resignation.

In a rejoinder, Naeem stated that he resigned on serious financial irregularities and lack of transparency and not because he was not made a member of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) committee.

"The real position is that the question of ACC committee and its membership did not exist on May 13, 2004 when I resigned. "The issue was on the ACC meeting's agenda held in London towards the end of June, 2004 and I was away from Pakistan from May 26 to end of June.

"The chairman on his return from London did mention about the possibility of my membership of ACC committee but I did not show any interest as I sensed that it was conditional on my withdrawing resignation," Naeem said.

He advised the PCB chairman to take a bold step of accepting the inquiry by an independent and high-powered body into the conduct and management of various financial and administrative affairs connected with the tour of Indian team to Pakistan so that truth could be uncovered. "An ordinary audit was no substitute for a thorough inquiry," he claimed.
