FAISALABAD, Aug 18: Scores of villagers attacked the offices of Jaranwala market committee chairman here on Wednesday and allegedly damaged furniture in protest against the 'indifferent' attitude of officials and corruption.

Reports said a group of people, led by Turab Ali, forced its entry into the offices of chairman and started beating the staff. They also ransacked the furniture and fixture of the offices and managed to escape by threatening the staff with dire consequences.

Police have registered a case against over 100 villagers, including Turab Ali. Insiders said market committee chief Inayat Ali and a visitor, Turab Ali, had exchanged hot words over some petty grain market issue. Later, the supporters of Turab Ali and the market committee employees had also exchanged hot words over the dispute.

BEATEN UP: Some residents of Quaid-e-Azam Town beat up a police party here on Tuesday night. Police said officials, led by SI Mushtaq Ahmed, raided a house-cum-shop of lottery tickets at Quaid-e-Azam Town on the Sargodha Road.

The inmates of the house, including women, beat up the policemen. The police team called a contingent and arrested seven people, including Akram and his accomplices.

'ENCOUNTER': A bandit was killed while a police constable sustained serious bullet injuries during an 'encounter' here on Wednesday in Dhuddiwala. Police claimed that a dacoits' gang forced its entry into the house of Faiz Muhammad and looted valuables at gunpoint.

In the meantime, Tauqeer Ahmed, son of Faiz, informed the police on telephone. On seeing the police, the gangsters opened fire on them. After an exchange of one-hour long firing, a bandit, Niggo Arain of Sheikhupura, was killed while his two accomplices Sajjad Hussain and Sajjad Ali sustained injuries. Constable Muhammad Akram also suffered injuries. Two outlaws Mustafa and Abdul Rauf managed their escape.
