KARACHI, Aug 18: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), in a raid at Ghani Chowrangi, SITE Area, confiscated 15 kg heroin and 120 kg hashish concealed in a Suzuki pickup, and arrested an accused.
The price of the seized quantity of the contraband in the international market was said to be around Rs200 million. This was stated by Col Khizar of ANF, while addressing a press conference at ANF Office on Wednesday.
Giving details of the raid, he said that the ANF police station Gulshan-e-Iqbal conducted the raid last night and arrested Abdul Hameed Baloch s/o Ali Muhammad Baloch, resident of Brohi Mohallah, Sher Shah, and recovered the drugs, concealed in secret cavities of the Suzuki pickup.
The police have registered an FIR against the accused and further investigations were underway, he added. He further said the accused belonged to a big gang of drug smugglers and major disclosures were expected from him.
Col Khizar said the ANF had also foiled an attempt to smuggle heroin to Canada and Bangladesh on Monday and recovered 1.965 kg heroin concealed in chipboards and 4.285 kgs heroin concealed in two cartons of TCS courier, booked from Gujranwala and Jhelum respectively. The TCS authorities in Karachi had informed the ANF about the presence of the contraband in the parcels, he added.
While in another similar action on Tuesday, 0.490 kg heroin was confiscated, which was being smuggled through OCS courier to London. The parcel was booked by a resident of Hayatabad, Peshawar from Peshawar, he added.
About another seizure at the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi on July 28, Col Khizar said the ANF in a raid had arrested accused Sher Zaman Khan s/o Shamsur Rehman, resident of Abidabad, Karachi and recovered 8.5 kg heroin from his possession, concealed in shopping bags.
He added that in a follow up raid on the house of a suspended ASF guard Asif Ali, the individual was apprehended with one kg heroin and a pistol. The confirmed involvement of the ASF staff had been detected while probes and subsequent raids were under way to track down the involvement of individuals from other agencies as well, he further said.
According to ANF statistics, 216.745 kg heroin, 5,731.225 kg hashish and 32.160 kg opium were confiscated from January 1 to August 18. - APP
