KARACHI, Aug 13: The city nazim, Naimatullah Khan, has said the city government is taking preferential steps for setting up computer labs to 56 schools of 18 towns, and Rs12 million have been allocated for this purpose.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a computer lab at the Government Girls Secondary Schools, Bihar Colony. The city nazim pointed out that the CDGK had earmarked 31 per cent of the budget for education, which was the highest all over Pakistan.

He announced that construction of a seminar hall at the Government Girls Secondary School, Bihar Colony would start in two months and upgrading the school to higher secondary level would be given due consideration in order to facilitate girls of the area wanting to get admission to first year classes. The computer lab being inaugurated was the first in Lyari area, he said.

Naimat said that the city government had spent Rs130 million on the construction of boundary walls of government schools, provision of toilets and other facilities.

In a period of three years, he said, 20 new colleges had been opened and 10 others would be added in the current financial year. The nazim said that some 93,000 girl students of classes VI to VIII had been given stipends amounting to Rs98.80 million. - APP
