ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has accused the government of usurping the fundamental rights of people and violating the Constitution on US dictations.
Accompanied by the families of six detained army officers, Mr Khan was speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday. Imran Khan said Pakistan was doing the same to its own people what Israel did to Palestinian.
"There is insurgency like situation in South Waziristan, which was likely to spread in the other parts of tribal area, as the government was serving the US interests at the cost of national interest.
Situation in Baluchistan was serious, while Karachi was witnessing a return to old days of incessant acts of terror. Our western borders are not safe and nearly two corps of Army had been deployed for the first time in our history."
The recent statements of Gen Musharraf portrays a mind-set that has refused to accept that the present political system could not deliver, Mr Khan said. Instead of protecting the masses, he said, the activities of law-enforcement agencies had just limited to protecting the VIPs.
He said the political system established by Gen Musharraf was designed to discredit the political process and to prolong military rule. He said if the criteria for Shaukat Aziz's election was his competence then surely the job of the PM should have been advertised for hiring a more competent technocrat to run the show.
