PESHAWAR, Aug 6: Fifteen people, including two women committed suicide in July because of unemployment, family disputes, depression and financial problems, claimed the Society for Human Rights and Prisoners Aid (SHARP).

The society has stated that the law and order situation was deteriorating in the NWFP and the government needed to take strict action to curb crimes, says a press release.

The figures have been collected by society's help line. The total number of crimes in the province during June stood at 191 whereas in July the number had risen up to 247 involving 287 people.

In the month of July, a total of 130 murder cases were reported which includes 139 men, 16 women and 12 children. In many cases the culprits could not be arrested. Three cases of domestic violence have been reported. In the past month 25 cases of kidnapping were recorded.

Commenting on the increasing ratio of kidnapping Mr Khan said that human rights situation in the province belied tall claims of the government in this regard. The increase in the number of robbery cases calls for immediate action on the part of government and authorities concerned to secure the lives and property of the innocent people.
