KARACHI, Aug 6: The additional secretary, Ministry of Communication, K.B. Rind on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review development schemes under implementation in connection with the rehabilitation of those affected by the Lyari Expressway project, and progress of the said project and attainment of right of way.

The meeting was attended by DCO Karachi, Mir Hussain Ali, project director, Lyari Expressway Rehabilitation Project Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, project director, LEW and Northern Bypass projects, Muhammad Yusuf Barakzai, Brig Muhammad Anwar of FWO, DIG Fayyaz Leghari, EDO Revenue city government, Muhammad Waseem, MD KWSB Brig Iftekhar and other officials.

The meeting was held in the light of the recent visit of federal Communication minister Babar Ghouri to the LEW project. It had been decided during the visit that a monitoring committee be formed, to be headed by additional secretary Communication, for finding out an immediate solution to problems coming in the way of the LEW's speedy construction and rehabilitation.

It had been decided that the committee would include concerned officials of both the federal and provincial governments, so that the project could be completed expeditiously.

It was also decided in the meeting that development schemes of rehabilitation projects be completed at the earliest for early attainment of right of way, and so that newly shifted people could get all facilities including water, electricity etc.

In this regard the DCO would convene fortnightly meetings to make coordination between concerned organizations more effective. It was decided that the Sui Southern Gas Company would be contacted at the federal and provincial levels for ensuring the supply of gas to the shifted population.

The federal additional secretary for Communication directed that a fortnightly news bulletin be issued so that concerned quarters and the people could be apprised about rehabilitation efforts being made.

Meanwhile, K.B. Rind, who heads the monitoring committee, would keep reviewing the pace of work at the meetings of concerned departments every month in Karachi. - APP
