RAWALPINDI, Aug 5: The district government has finalized the site for the proposed Potohar University, which would now be constructed near Mandra, an official said. Earlier three sites, including Mandra were under consideration. The other two sites were Takhtpari Road and Adiala Road.
The district government has already made a token allocation of Rs1 million for the varsity to be constructed on 215 acres of land. Officials claimed that the project had already been approved by the Punjab government.
The district government had initially planned to upgrade Asghar Mall College but the idea was dropped after the intervention of some other colleges. President Gen Pervez Musharraf had announced the setting up of the university in the city during his address to the public rally held in connection with the referendum.
CCBs: The district government has directed Tehsil Nazims to facilitate the setting up of Citizen Community Boards (CCBs) in their areas so that the amount stuck up under the head of the CCBs for development purposes could be utilized. Over Rs30 million is lying with the district government. The amount can only be utilized by the CCBs.
