Donors urged to finance projects

ISLAMABAD, Aug 5: Pakistan has urged international donor agencies to provide fund and technical assistance for the development of various sectors identified in the Trade Policy 2004-05.

The request was made by Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan in the 4th donors coordination meeting held here on Thursday. Representatives of the World Bank, the UNCTAD, the ADB, the UNDP, Jetro, the EU and the DFID participated in the meeting.

An official announcement said the technical assistance was sought for the establishment of communication city, promotion of the garment sector, export of horticulture products, export of pharmaceutical products, etc. The donors were also asked to provide financial assistance for the establishment of new campus of the Pakistan School of Fashion Design at Lahore.

The donors assured that they would study all the initiatives and would submit their proposals for funding and consultancy services in the next meeting. A thorough review of the research studies being undertaken by the donors was made in the meeting. It was informed that some of the short-term studies had been completed and the rest were likely to be completed by the end of this year.
