KARACHI, Aug 1: Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani on Saturday asked officials of various departments to address people's complaints about basic amenities and resolve their social problems of basic nature.
He told them that besides resolving social problems, health, education, water supply, sanitation and transport were on the government's top priority. Mr Sanjrani expressed these views while issuing directives to officials concerned during a meeting with various delegations which called on him at his office.
He said that by promoting coordination between provincial and local governments and adopting the principles of understanding and cohesion, the best strategy was being followed so that people could get their basic problems resolved and socio-economic development could be ensured.
He advised people not to forget mentioning their complete address on the applications seeking resolution of their problems so that the concerned departments could contact them easily.
About the visitors' apprehensions about the rain-related problems, the chief secretary told them that an action plan had been chalked out in this regard for the officers of city government and other relevant departments.
He pointed out that the officers had been directed to ensure proper functioning of sewerage and drainage system. Cleaning of storm-water drains had already been undertaken and the concerned officials had been directed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during rains.
He said the traffic police had been asked to discharge their responsibilities efficiently to prevent traffic jams. Mr Sanjrani told the delegations that the DCO Karachi and officials of local government and other departments had also been put on alert to ensure smooth functioning of sewerage system to avoid accumulation of water on roads and in low-lying areas and kutchi abadis of the city. - APP
