MITHI, Aug 1: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said arrangements will be made to provide wheat at 50 per cent subsidized rate to people in Tharparkar as delay in monsoon has created drought-like situation in the district.
Speaking at a big public gathering in Bhitaro, near Naokot, in connection with the election campaign of Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday, he said Thar people were finding it difficult to make both ends meet.
Dr Rahim appealed to people of the district to vote for Mr Aziz in the by-election for NA-229, Tharparkar-I. He said the polls would be held in a transparent manner according to rules and regulations of the Election Commission and representatives of local and international channels could monitor the by-election process.
The chief minister was informed that the government had provided Rs90 million for distribution through cheques among flood and rain victims. MPAs Arbab Haji Abdullah, Abdul Razzaq Rahoomo and Poonjomal, MNA Ghulam Haider Samejo, Faqir Sher Mohammad Bilalani and Arbab Attaullah, spoke at the gathering.
