SARGODHA, Aug 1: Former MNA Ziaur Rehman Luk was booked by the Cantonment police late Saturday night on charges of keeping five bottles of liquor and some cartridges in his car. He was also said to be under the influence.

It was learnt that the police managed to get his medical check up and send the contents of his stomach for chemical analysis. The police will register another case against the former MNA under the Prohibition Order for Drinking Liquor in case of positive results of chemical analysis.

At present, the police have registered two FIRs against him - one under 3/4 Prohibition Ordinance and another under 13/20/65 Arms Ordinance. He was reportedly returning to his house after attending a marriage ceremony by his car (LRZ-3777). Ziaur Rehman Luk had been elected MNA in 1993 on the PML-N ticket, but later he joined the Millat Party.

CASE: Jhal Chakian police on Sunday booked a union council Nazim and two Forest department employees for thrashing a councillor of UC No 118, Chak 92-NB. Muhammad Iqbal Malik used to oppose UC Nazim Hussain Baloch.

To take revenge, Baloch along with Block Officer Mehr Zafar and driver Bashir Ahmed beat up Iqbal Malik and also broke his teeth. Later, they also abducted him and confined him to the outhouse of the Nazim. However, with the intervention of some elites of the village, he was rescued.

ATTACKED: Motorcycle rickshaw union office-bearers stormed the office of an Urdu daily here on Sunday afternoon on the City Road for publishing a report about 'illegal' stands.

Some reporters of two Urdu newspapers carried news items about the rickshaw drivers for setting up illegal stands in the city. This annoyed the union leaders, including Akhtar Joyia and Asif, who along with ten others attacked the office of the newspaper and broke the windowpanes, besides threatening its reporter with dire consequences.
