KARACHI, May 22: Five ships carrying containers are expected to arrive at the outer anchorage on Thursday, according to KPT sources.

Berth occupancy at the wharves showed a modest improvement at 67 per cent on the oil piers but remained modest at 24 per cent on the dry wharves.

However, it is expected to increase further as ship movements on Wednesday were on the higher side as five ships were berthed and as many departed.

Five ships, Lanka Mahapola, Bombay Star, Agios Nikolas to unload and load containers and offload rock phosphate, NCC Hijaz, and Bear-G to unload chemicals and high speed diesel were berthed.

The ships, which departed were led by Kota Selam, Winco Feeder, Oriental Pheonix, Banglar Kakoli and Nord Sea, while Fuji Hoshi, Trade Selene, Lanka Mahapola, NCC Hijaz and Bear-G are due to sail out on Thursday.

Cargo handling activity at the wharves modest where a total tonnage of 40,564 tons comprising 18,775 tons of export cargo including 12,800 tons of molasses and 21,789 tons of import tonnage was handled.

The following are due on Thursday: Leixoes, Hammurabi, Kathrine Sif, with containers, Multan, with general cargo and Korina, with high speed diesel.
