SUKKUR, July 8: A judge of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, on Thursday summoned seven persons for July 13 on a petition accusing them of holding a jirga. Those who were issued the notices included a Sindh minister, district nazim, DPO, Pano Aqil TPO and SHO of the taluka police station.
The judge, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, issued the notices on the supplementary petition, filed by Imam Bux Bullo, stating that the respondents had held a jirga in Pano Aqil to decide a karo-kari dispute between Bullo and Mahessar tribes.
The petitioner said the respondents had violated a high court order of April 21, 2004, banning jirgas in Sindh. He said his wife had been killed on the pretext of karo-kari but police had not registered an FIR.
He said on July 4, TPO Ghulam Mohammad Mahar and SHO Rana Nasrullah, along with a heavy contingent of police, raided his house and took him to the house of DPO Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, where a jirga was being held under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister Manzoor Panhwar.
District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sardar Karam Ellahi Mahessar and Sardar Mohammad Murad Bullo were also present. The petitioner said the jirga decided the dispute by imposing a fine of Rs300,000 on Mahessar tribesmen.
But, he added, when he refused to take the money, the TPO and the SHO abused and humiliated him and threatened him with killing in a fake encounter. The court ordered the respondents to appear before the court on July 13.
