KARACHI, July 7: The City District Government Karachi has established rain emergency centres across the city to deal with any emergency during expected heavy downpour.

According to a CDGK official, the City Nazim has emphasized for a better performance of these centres and directed the officials posted at the emergency centres to coordinate with the Met department for expected rains, thunderstorm and floods.

He also asked the officials to continuously monitor the Malir river embankments and said that the citizens should not live in "dangerous" residential buildings.

Naimatullah Khan also stressed for timely removal of debris during expected heavy rains and called for enhanced coordination with the KESC officials for repair of electricity infrastructure during monsoon rains.

He asked the EDO Health to ensure availability of medicines, medical staff and ambulances at medical centres (polyclinics) of civic centres and all other hospitals of the CDGK.

According to the CDGK, rain emergency centres have been established at Civic Centre Gulshan-i-Iqbal (Ph: 9230278), Works and Services Department Camp Office Guru Mandir near Dawood Engineering College (9231365), former KMC workshop office Nishter road (9215654), DDO office Malir embankments near Hino Chowk Korangi Industrial Area (5389966) and District Officers Housing, Room no 408, 4th floor, Civic Centre Gulshan-i-Iqbal (9230661). -PPI
