US restores diplomatic ties with Libya

TRIPOLI, June 29: The United States on Monday formally restored its diplomatic ties with Libya, severed for 24 years, as President George W. Bush pledged to work toward a complete normalization of relations between the two countries.

US Assistant Secretary of State William Burns said in a statement he had formally inaugurated the new US Liaison Office in Tripoli and restored direct diplomatic ties. -Reuters
