LAHORE,June29: Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq said on Tuesday that the fitness level test of the national camp probables will have no role in selecting the final squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.
Talking to reporters at the Qadhafi Stadium, Inzamam said that the trainer Murray Stevenson would only conduct the test on Wednesday to determine the actual physical strength of the players and then train them accordingly.
Inzamam said that the current spell of hot weather in Lahore was similar to that in Sri Lanka and, therefore, the boys would adjust quickly once the team arrives in that country.
Meanwhile, medium-pacer Umar Gul's participation in the Asia Cup is doubtful as he has still not yet recovered from the back problem during the second Test of home series against India in April.
Camp commandant Haroon Rashid said that Umar's progress will be assessed by Stevenson, who joined the camp on Tuesday. He added that so far 23 of the 26 probables had reported at the camp.
Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and fast bowler Mohammad Sami had reached Karachi and they would report for training on Wednesday. Haroon, meanwhile, revealed that he had no information about speedster Shoaib Akhtar, who has yet to join the camp.
