Algerian group chief killed

ALGIERS, June 20: The Algerian army has killed the leader of an Islamic organization with ties to Al Qaeda, official radio said on Sunday, dealing a significant blow to north Africa's top militant group.

The radio, citing a statement from the armed forces, said Nabil Sahraoui, leader of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), was killed by the army with several other senior members. It did not say when they were killed. -Reuters
