BADIN, June 20: Growers on Sunday took out a procession in Matli town against an unannounced closure of all tail-end water-courses of the Phulleli canal and Akram Wah. They were led by Seth Dharmomal, Nisar Kaimkhani, Peeral Nizamani, UC nazims and representatives of farmers' organizations.

They started marching from the FO office and after passing through the main roads reached the Matli press club. They observed a sit-in on the Badin-Hyderabad road for an hour.

Speaking on the occasion, they lamented that the irrigation authorities had closed Pir Wah, Murad Wah, Imam Wah, Junebi, Baweli Wah, Leghari Wah and other water channels only two days after the Sindh chief minister's statement that water would be supplied to tail-end growers.

They said that they had prepared paddy seedlings and if water was not supplied the entire taluka would be affected.

KHAIRPUR: Growers held a demonstration in Sobhodero on Sunday to protest against water shortage in the Kharkano Wah, Teekano Wah, Mehrab Wah, Imam Shakh and the Tharil Shakh.

The protesters, led by Ismail Qureshi, marched two kilometres from the Ghulam Hussain Sameto village to the Sobhodero town where they staged a sit-in and observed a token hunger strike for five hours.

THATTA: The closure of the Keenjhar Lake's K. B. Feeder, lower, Sakro Wah and the Jam Branch and eight distributaries of the Ganj Bahar Canal riverine network have affected paddy seedlings in the district. A group of growers who came to the press club on Saturday said the situation had caused them huge financial losses.
